A Quick Update

  • Drinking: Rum & Coke

So... It's been a while, huh? Just thought I would post an update for anyone who might be interested in what I've been up to.

As most of you know, I've been plagued by some health issues in recent years. I have a few different doctors trying to figure out why I'm so damn tired and weak all the time, despite my successful transplant. It's looking more and more to be something to do with my thyroid/parathyroid, but I won't know any more until my next appointment in October.

This week, however, I had my yearly skin check and my dermatologist confirmed that a mole I had pointed out as a concern last year (it came out of nowhere, but I was assured it was normal) had more than doubled in size. My doctor removed the mole and it's being tested, but I've been told not to worry and that it just looks like a benign, atypical mole.

Oh yeah... did I mention this mole was on the bottom of my foot? So now I'm walking around with a hole in the bottom of my foot, and it's rather painful at the moment.

Aside from that, not much new is going on. I'm still writing, but with the fatigue and difficulty concentrating it's a real chore. To anyone who is still sticking around waiting on updates: Thank you for your continued support. I promise you those updates will come, but my health is coming first right now.

RIP Robin Williams

I just.... I can't... Words cannot express just how bummed out I am feeling right now.

The news of Robin Williams' passing - and the circumstances involved - hit me like a ton of bricks. I swear I felt my heart break when I found out. He was a one-of-a-kind man. He could make you laugh with his comedy, yet still make you think with his more serious roles... and today, he's made a lot of people cry.

Right now, I am watching Aladdin - my favorite Disney movie due to his performance as the Genie - and I can't stop bawling my eyes out. What a tragic end to a brilliant life.

Nanu Nanu, Robin... You will be missed.

My New Toy

I just feel like bragging about the (slightly late) birthday present I got from my dad yesterday.

It wasn't really late due to his fault, but my own. He wanted to get me a new TV so I could use the Roku he got me this past Christmas. See... the TV I had only had two HMDI inputs on it. Which was fine - he got me an HDMI switch box, and so the Roku was on one input and everything else was on the switchbox plugged into the other input. But... then I got a PS4. And unless it was plugged into its very own HDMI input, I had no sound thanks to the stupid HDCP on it.

Therefore, the Roku had to be sacrificed in order to plug in and use my PS4. (It doesn't work properly on the switchbox, either, as every time you use something else on it and go back to the Roku it'll give you a purple error screen where the picture should be).

So now I am the proud owner of this...

It is a 40" LED TV with three HDMI inputs and a PC input. Now I can have all my gaming systems, my DISH box, and my Roku plugged in with no problems. I can even use it as a 40" computer monitor - as you can see from the picture of me visiting the Darkmoon Faire in World of Warcraft - without the resolution on my laptop being forced to change. (My old one forced it go to down because it wasn't 1080p.)

There were some bad reviews on this TV, citing crappy sound, but guess what? I fixed that problem! It's called, "Go into your sound settings and change them!" Yes, the sound was shit out of the box, but once I adjusted the bass and treble levels and fiddled with the equalizer a bit, it really wasn't that bad for TV speakers. I'll still use my Logitech ones during the day, though... for awesome, BIG sound.

So that's it. About all I gotta say today, except... Weather has been bad here and we've had several power outages in the past few days due to storms, but I'm still kicking it. Heading to see my nephrologist this morning, so hopefully things go well there, too. Oh, and my cousin is now in jail. Long story.

Name: Heather
DOB: June 29
Astrological sign: Cancer
Chinese Astrology: Water Dog
Home base: Pennsylvania
Where I wish my home base was: Somewhere warmer. Seriously...We have four seasons here: almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction. Right now, it's August and barely 60 degrees here.

Why ParisWriter? Well... Obviously, I'm a writer. So that's where that part comes from. Paris is after the French capitol, where I spent two days on a school trip when I was 15. I absolutely fell in love with the city. Someday, I hope I can go back on my own terms so I can really experience it without being rushed around.

What is Creative ADD? Creative ADD is a term coined by myself to describe the affliction that some writers have where your brain is just so over-run by ideas that you keep jumping around from one to the next and eventually end up with a dozen or so unfinished stories that you swear you will finish someday... though you can't exactly say if 'someday' will be in six months or six years. What's worse, you still keep coming up with more ideas, no matter how hard you try to stop.

How long have you been writing? Since I was seven. We had to write a story in our computer class in elementary school, and since it was around Halloween I wrote one about a house that basically killed everyone who went into it. (Whoever went inside was never seen again.) What can I say? I guess I've always had a leaning toward the darker things...

How long have you been writing fanfiction? I didn't even know what fanfiction was until my family first got the internet when I was 14. I wrote my first story - a really bad Highlander fic which, thankfully, no longer exists - when I was 15. I didn't really write much more fanfiction after that until I was 23, when I first fell very ill with kidney disease and spent a lot of time in bed with my laptop. So... Let's say about eight years I've been writing fanfiction.
